manisan mangga

manisan mangga

Selamat ber-hot ria..

HUT RI 43 di Townsville: arena latihan

24 Sep 2009 In: Independence Day

This time I got an opportunity to attend two practising camps:  The Duo Cute Little Girls Camp and The Trio Ladies Camp.  Because we are all busy, we had one-all nite long exercise for the Ladies and one-long afvo for the Kids.

“Lapor Boss .. susah n kudu sabar nge-latih anak-anak.. so so far so good deh.. tapi aku gak jadi kasih mp3 recordings.. terlalu buuanyakkkk interruption, erruption, destruction hahahah .. untung ada Sang Mama-Papa yg pelatih tangguh..   1 laporan kali ya.. bahwa soal kostum udah oke.. tau sendirrrrriiiii anak-anak.. kostum duluaaaaannn ketimbang latihannye hehehhehehe.. sama juga sih ama The Ladies.. bajuuuuu duluuuuuu baru latiaaann.. salah kaki lagi.. untung kebaya ku gak robek-robek.. gemana sech Putri Indonesia Do hihi.. .. sama aja ama Putri Townsville De.. udah tahu kebaya gue putih.. maen tarooo ajee di mejeee..

The nite was sooo nice.  Especially when we practised the special request song from the Boss.  The song is so special that attracting every lady behaved ’special’.   One of us refused politely ‘O.. go on ladies, that’s not my type song’.  The others kept going with individually-different expression until finally ” Nak.. Nak.. pagi-pagi kok tiduuurrr aaeee.. bangun dong Nak..” and of course these sweet words came from ‘non-Mom’ lady hehe.. The nite was so loud too.  When we worked on a song we ‘ber-haha’ (laughed) a lot at  ‘Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa’ and they did it to embarass me really.

Pada suatu kesempatan mereka bercerita pada saya, “Tante Dian, we begin our frienships with ‘I’m thinking of you everyday’ “.

It’s never too late to share the interesting event in a short story. As an annual event, Townsville’s cultural festival this year was held in 12-16 August. This event filled with enormous dances, foods, music, arts, workshop and sports. The heaps of entertainment performances during those days were various from Bollywood night, Pacific Rhythm Concert, Tropigo Carnival, and Didgi— a Fire Indigenous Concert. The aim of this event is actually to brought up the differences of cultural background people in Townsville and brings togetherness in one unity.

One of the sesepuh of ppia- JCU, Putu Liza a.k.a Icha participated in this event by performed an Indian dance at the first day. I came right on time when Icha just started to dance. Not being to exaggerate, but she danced very well. With a very elegant red costume, she conquered the stage by herself. She began the dance in the centre of the stage, made some dance pose which I thought it kinda hard to do by a normal people, and for sure she has the skills. She moved her body to the right and left wings of the stage, and flow with the harmony of the music and did several flexible movements (it just like in the Indian movie). As an opening performance, it was vey successful, the crowds were clapped, shouted after Icha finished the dance, lights and camera’s blitz were focus in to the centre of the stage where Icha standing. One thing that amazed me when I saw Icha made the Nataraja pose (she pulled her left leg backward high, hold it with her left hand, and stood up with just one leg around 5- 10 seconds, pppfffuiiihhh nice balance Icha….),that was absolutely cool.

I asked one of my Indian friend whom I met on that night : what was the name of that dance at the earlier performance, he said it was a Bharatanatyam dance, a classical-southern part India dance and your friend did it wonderfully (you got a complement Icha). Furthermore, I asked uncle Wikki and he gave me this information: Bharatanatyam is a classic dance form originated in Tamil Nadu, a state in Southern India and is also the national dance of India. This dance form denotes various 19th and 20th century reconstructions of Cathir, the art of temple dancers. Cathir in turn, is derived from ancient dance forms. Bharatanatyam is usually accompanied by the classical Carnatic music.

The point is that the ppia-JCU was very proud to see their sesepuh made a great contribution in such event. Hopefully, there will be more than a sesepuh can involve on such events next time.

JCU Open Day 2009: Your Journey Your Future

31 Aug 2009 In: special events

JCU Open Day is an annual event.  This year public event, 30 August 2009, offers ‘James Cook University: Your Journey Your Future Your ticket to uni - How to get in - course options - career prospects’.  As part of these offers, JCU Open Day 2009 had welcome visitors with various tours, activities, demonstrations, presentations and talks.  It’s interesting to see a visitor train running around to tour the accommodation facilities and JCU lawn (botanical tour).  This is what I saw different from last year JCU Open Day.

mejenk3with Valen enjoying The Zoology Section where I’m impressed with an elephant’s ‘giant’ tooth (photo by Dewi)

I was at Science Area especially ‘Plant Ecology, Agriculture and Plant Physiology’ Section doing my best serving the visitors.  Among them were little and teenage fellas with their family.  This is why I could say a family event; as who knows these kids are JCU prospectives in the future.  Let’s see Dewi’s son (Dewi is my JCU-student mate), Barry Valen, running around enjoying various creatures such as turtles, frogs, snacks, fish, corals, insects etc.  In my section, fruit display was quite attracting visitors.  Some visitors wondered how jackfruit fruit type, flower characteristics and… of course flavour; unfortunately it’s still raw.  We attracted them with an interactive demonstration as well to chalenge them what type fruit it is.  It was a lot of fun.

My research poster and display at 'Plant Ecology' Section

My PhD research: "Regeneration of palms in response to cyclonic disturbance"

poster by Yansen (kandidat PhD): "Changing connections: Metamorphosing plants in tropical rainforests"

Fun among staff in charge was amazing as well.  Well.. we were tired of the visitors.  Sometimes we helped each other even not in our own section.. ups it was a funny ‘neighborhood’  scene.  Oww.. sorry.. I was explaining fruit.. your part.  Haha.. sorry.. I was explaining the frogs.. your expertise.  Feeling guilty I ask Dr Ross Alford (JCU famous herpetologist) about his frog demonstration “Your frogs love hiding and they are shy creatures annoying the visitors where they are”;  it was afternoon.. Ross: “oh yeah.. they are full of foods, the visitors love watching us feeding them”.

Finally it’s over.  Here we are keep promoting James Cook University as a world-class university for your best specialization in the tropics.

Selamat bekerja untuk pengurus PPIA - James Cook University periode 2009 - 2010.

Congrats Friend!

Nah soal bidang minat, jangan takut deh.

Nah waktu pertama milih, saya punya 3 bidang minat; Tropical Ecology, Conservation Biology sama Tropical Plant Sciences.
